Green chutney is a herb filled chutney to serve with chaats, sandwiches, snacks and tandoori kabab dishes. I have shared 4 version of green chutney in this blog post. Green chutney with coconut, bombay green chutney with bread, Mint chutney for tandoori dishes and green chutney with curd for sandwiches. This taste delicious with snacks like samosa, pakora and chaats.

Green Chutney Recipe

This recipe is from tarla dalal's mumbai roadside snacks cookbook and i am kind of addicted to that cookbook and making quite a lot of recipes from it. Few weeks back i was in sandwich mood and i made quite a lot of sandwich from that book.

About Green Chutney

Green chutney also known as sandwich chutney, mint chutney, bombay chutney, chaat chutney, teekha chutney and many more.

This green chutney is made in so many version. I have shared 4 popular version of making green chutney at home.

This taste delicious with snacks like samosa, pakora and chaats.

Long time back my friends gifted me a tarla dalal's Mumbai Roadside Snack Cookbook. I even used that cookbook to make quite a few chat recipes. Then almost forgot that cookbook. But few days back when I was checking on my cookbook shelf, my eyes went on this cookbook. I took that and started reading, that inspired to try out quite a few sandwich recipe of that. I made quite a lot of them actually and they were perfect. Also made the bombay sandwich masala and chutneys for the sandwich.

Green Chutney with Coconut

This particular version of green chutney has coconut added for thickness. Also green chutney made in bombay road side has spinach added which is not only healthy but makes the chutney bright green colour. This particular version is perfect to spread in sandwiches.

Green Chutney without Coconut

This particular version of green chutney has bread added for thickness. Also green chutney made in bombay road side has spinach added which is not only healthy but makes the chutney bright green colour. This is perfect as dipping sauce for snacks or as a spread for sandwiches.

Ingredients for Bombay Chutney

Coriander Leaves - 1 cup
Mint Leaves - ½ cup
Spinach Leaves - ½ cup (any spinach, but palak is better)
Green Chillies - 5 to 6
Bread Slice - 2
Lemon Juice - 2 tblspn
Salt to taste
Water - little for grinding

Green Chutney for Tandoori Dishes (Mint Chutney with Curd)

This is the chutney which i was talking about in my tandoori chicken. I already have two version of mint chutney. A mint chutney which i have with my dosa or idli and a mint chutney which i have with my chat. This chutney is a little different one. It has some yogurt added to it which makes it creamy and just like a dipping sauce.

Here I am with the main chutney recipe which you need for all chat items..This recipe clearly shows that I have so many chat items on store for you from now on. There is two more chutney which you want for chat item. I will post that tomorrow. Made lots of delicious chat recipes and topped with this chutney and they all were delicious. Ingredients for teekha chutney

Coriander Leaves / Cilantro – 3 cups packed
Ginger – 1 tblspn chopped
Green Chilli -2
Salt to taste
Lemon Juice – 4 tblspn
Water as needed

Add all ingredients in a blender

Ingredients

GREEN CHUTNEY WITH COCONUT

  • Coriander Leaves - 1 cup

  • Coconut - 2 tblspn grated
  • Garlic - 2 cloves
  • Salt to taste
  • Water - little for grinding

GREEN CHUTNEY WITHOUT COCONUT

  • Coriander Leaves - 1 cup
  • Mint Leaves - ½ cup
  • Spinach Leaves - ½ cup any spinach, but palak is better
  • Green Chillies - 5 to 6
  • Bread Slice - 2
  • Lemon Juice - 2 tblspn
  • Salt to taste
  • Water - little for grinding

GREEN CHUTNEY WITH CURD

  • Coriander Leaves / Cilantro - 1 cup chopped
  • Mint Leaves - 1 cup
  • Green Chilli - 2 to 3
  • Garlic - 2 cloves
  • Salt to taste
  • Sugar - 1 tsp
  • Lemon Juice - 1 tblspn
  • Curd / Yogurt - 3 tblspn

GREEN CHUTNEY FOR CHAATS (ONLY CORIANDER LEAVES)

  • Coriander Leaves / Cilantro – 3 cups packed
  • Ginger – 1 tblspn chopped
  • Green Chilli -2
  • Salt to taste
  • Lemon Juice – 4 tblspn
  • Water as needed

Instructions

GREEN CHUTNEY WITH COCONUT

  • Take all the ingredients in a blender and make it into a fine puree.

  • Pour into serving bowls and serve with tandoori foods.

GREEN CHUTNEY WITHOUT COCONUT

  • Take all the ingredients in a blender and puree till smooth.

  • Pour into an air tight container and store in fridge till use.

GREEN CHUTNEY WITH CURD

  • Take all the ingredients in a blender and puree till smooth.

  • Pour into an air tight container and store in fridge till use.

GREEN CHUTNEY FOR CHAATS (ONLY CORIANDER LEAVES)

  • Take everything in a blender and make into a fine paste..

  • Store it in an air tight container in a freezer upto a month.

    Dear Aarti, I really follow Ur teceipes. They r really good and easy to follow. In this green chutney recipe pictorial, it looks like u have used araikeerai but u have mentioned that palak. Please clarify. Thanks.

    When I used spinach leaves in the chutney. After that, some spinach raw flavour comes in ..at the time of eating..

    Please give me any solution for removing raw flavour....

    @Sushil Kumar Goelu must have added too much spinach, add very little like half cup. Addition of lemon juice will remove it.

    @MiamiU can store this in fridge for 2 days. In frezer for more than a month. Freeze in ice cube tray adn then collect all of them in a ziploc bag.

      You can use japaneno chillies. And the blender which i am using is a indian one. it is called as mixer grinder in india.
